Cambridgeshire’s Oliver Jarvis has won the prestigious Macau Grand Prix in commanding style in a race he led from start to finish to claim the most significant victory in his racing career to date. The 23 year old driving for Team Reckless TOM’S Toyota had started from pole position having also won Saturday’s Qualification race which dictates the start order for this famous Formula 3 Grand Prix.
He now joins an elite list of winners’ names which include the likes of Michael Schumacher, the late Ayrton Senna, Ralf Schumacher and David Coulthard to name but a few.
Jarvis made an impressive start to lead the field into the first bend despite a challenge from Marko Asmer off the line, but he masterly opened up a sizeable gap to dominate the race. He opened up a two second lead over Kazuya Oshima with Asmer behind him, until lap seven when the safety car was deployed following a crash involving Manor Motorsport’s Frank Mailleux.
With the race resuming on lap 11, Jarvis made a copybook getaway instantly opening up the lead once more over Oshima who was then being tailed by Kodai Tsukakoshi.
Jarvis, who had been in spectacular form throughout Macau dominating both Qualifying and Race sessions, kept his cool even when Tsukakoshi managed to pass Oshima, to cross the line to victory some 1.7 seconds ahead.
“What a fantastic weekend!” comments an ecstatic Oliver Jarvis. “To win the Macau GP is very special and it hasn’t really sunk in yet. It’s definitely the biggest win of my career and I would like to thank everyone at TOM’S Toyota as this was a real team effort and the car and engine have been fantastic all weekend.”
Oliver Jarvis also now has a Formula Nippon test at Suzuka to look forward to on Tuesday before returning to his A1GP duties in Malaysia this week driving for A1 Team GBR in Sepang (23-25 November) competing in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport.
