Double Podium for A1 Team GBR as Jarvis Scores Second in Both Races

A1 Team Great Britain has moved up to fourth place in the Championship as Oliver Jarvis scores a double podium in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport competing in Mexico City yesterday (Sunday).

Oliver, from Cambridgeshire, put in a superb performance to achieve a second place finish in both the Sprint and Feature Races, and also collected a bonus point for fastest lap.  Team GBR netted the highest points haul of all the teams and was the only team to score a double podium.  oj9

Having won in Mexico last year, Oliver was in determined mood.  The first start of the Sprint was aborted after a compacted grid had to brake late when pole-sitters Team South Africa appeared to slow around the final corner, causing a multi-car accident.  Team GBR was a victim of this, damaging the front wing.  The race re-started 24 mins later and Oliver Jarvis, starting from fifth, made a fantastic start moving up to third heading into the first corner.  When South Africa sustained a puncture, Oliver was able to move up to second place, the position in which he crossed the chequered flag.

Oliver made another good start from fourth on the grid in the Feature Race and headed into the first corner in a three way battle with Switzerland and Canada, eventually slotting into third position.  In a thrilling race full of drama, he held on to his position until he made his first compulsory pitstop on lap nine.  As he was entering the pitlane, New Zealand hit the British car from behind but luckily there appeared to be no damage.  Emerging fourth after the pitstop behind Switzerland, Ireland and Canada, it wasn’t long before Oliver made a great overtaking manoeuvre on Canada’s Robbie Wickens and retook third position.  A stop and go penalty for Switzerland moved him up yet another place and Oliver finished the Feature in second place, also achieving the fastest lap.

T his was Oliver’s last race this 2007-2008 season with A1 Team GBR as he now moves on to fulfil his Audi DTM duties which start in April.
