| Jarvis gets off to Flying Start at Norisring |

Cambridgeshire’s Oliver Jarvis made an impressive start at Norisring, Nuremberg in front of 140,000 spectators who came to watch the exciting DTM action.
“My first qualifying went well but in the second session we decided to start on old tyres in order to save one set for Zandvoort. But afterwards, on the new tyres, we didn’t achieve the improvement we’d been hoping for,” explained Oliver on the Qualifying session.
Starting from 13th on the grid mainly due to the weight disadvantage of the car (this being the handicap system for ballast) the 24 year old Brit made good ground in the early stages of the race, gaining several positions.
“My start was good and the first two laps were really varied while fighting with Alex (Prémat) and the others. Those were some nice fights and I advanced a few places. After the pit stops, I was in a good position but Maro Engel came up behind me in turn four on the inside line. He braked too late and hit me in the rear. I lost a few places. At the end, it was a really tough battle because the braking distances got longer. A disappointing race end,” says Oliver Jarvis.
Last year’s A4 cars, as driven by Oliver, were the heaviest handicapped vehicles in the entire field in Nuremberg and consequently had little chance of points.
Ernst Moser (Team Director Audi Sport Team Phoenix) said: “Up to the first pit stop everything was going according to plan. We were able to keep the old Mercedes cars – except for Gary Paffett – behind us. Oliver lost several positions in an action that wasn’t shown on TV. We want to make up for that at Zandvoort (13 July) with less weight and lots of motivation.” The race was won by Jamie Green (Mercedes) with Oliver having to be content with a 12th position finish with team mate, Alex Prémat in 14th. |
