The penultimate round of the 2008 DTM series at Le Mans proved eventful for Oliver Jarvis in a race that enjoyed its fair share of thrills and spills caused by the unpredictable weather.
Constant changing intensity of rain turned the tenth round into a lottery and the most action-packed race of the season so far. It was all about tyre decisions, and the Best Buddies Audi team Phoenix rightly opted for slicks for the race start.
Oliver, from the fifth row on the grid, had to start on a wet line on slicks which prevented him from moving off quickly. He quickly managed to make up the places and looked to be in contention for more Championship points in the 2007 spec Audi A4 DTM.
But the sporadic rain, which came and went throughout the race, was causing its fair share of havoc, not least when Bruno Spengler hit Oliver’s car in the side, ending the race for the disappointed Brit.
“The conditions were proving testing but I really felt we were in for a chance of points. I was just so frustrated to have my race ended especially as I wasn’t too far off my team-mate Alex Premat who finished on the podium,” explained a clearly disappointed Oliver Jarvis. “It really could have been a double points exploit for Phoenix.”
Ernst Moser (Team Director Audi Sport Team Phoenix) said: “I’m overwhelmed that we were able to clinch such a result with a car from last year driven by Alex Premat. Too bad Oliver had an accident because things were going really well for him too.”
The race was won by Audi’s Mattias Ekstrom. The final round takes place at Hockenheim in three weeks time.
