Countdown to First DTM Race of 2009
The new DTM season starts again this Sunday (17 May) at Hockenheim.  After exactly 203 race-free days, the lights starting the most popular international touring car series switch from red to green for the first time this year.

Not only is it Audi’s 100th anniversary, but it is also the 100th race of new DTM.  Audi will be bidding to win the DTM title for a third consecutive time and if so, would become the first manufacturer to achieve this.

Well prepared for the season ahead, Dr Wolfgang Ullrich (Head of Audi Motorsport) has the motto “Never change a winning team” and so his driver line-up for 2009 remains the same which includes Oliver Jarvis driving this year, the Audi Cup car (a 2008 spec car).

“Only a year ago, DTM was completely new to me,” says Oliver Jarvis.  “I really learned to appreciate the series and was particularly happy about the way Audi and Ernst Moser welcomed me to Team Phoenix.  The DTM, its races and circuits are great but they are challenging too.  Driving a year old car means running in mid-field but there is often a bit of action here!  I believe combining a consistent and aggressive driving style pays off. I can hardly wait for the season to start because the 2008 spec car is great to drive, and Audi won the title with it last year!”

There will be a free practice session on Saturday morning.  Qualifying in the afternoon has been enhanced by a fourth segment in which the four fastest drivers on just one flying lap will fight for pole position on used tyres and without refuelling. The race itself starts at 2.03pm local time on Sunday 17, May.
