Leisure, Le Mans and Dolphins |
|
After the disappointment of Lausitz Ring, I headed back to the UK to see my family and friends after so long away.
It was great to be back home for a few days before returning to Switzerland. I was only in Switzerland for a few days as I decided to go to Le Mans to watch the 24 Heures. I had been hoping to secure a drive but unfortunately that didn’t happen this year. That said, it was a great experience to just go there and watch!
The atmosphere is amazing and to see the speed of the cars at night is really impressive. Being there and watching the race really makes you realise how demanding it must be not only for the machinery but for all the people involved. Many of the mechanics and engineers arrived at the track early Saturday morning for the warm-up after what was already a hard week’s work (with very little sleep). They would then work all through the night and into Sunday evening with little, or in many cases, no sleep at all.
After Le Mans I returned to Switzerland to train ahead of the Norisring race. In the time before Norisring I managed to have a good weekend with friends where we went out on Lake Konstanz wakeboarding. We also visited the nearby “connyland’’ which is a small theme park but with animal shows including a dolphin show. It was incredible to watch the dolphin show and to see how well trained they are. I’m planning to go back soon and to actually swim with the dolphins. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.
So Norisring…..Well what a disaster! For some reason I really struggled in qualifying in the wet and simply had no grip. This meant I started near the back and when you start at the back there is always a higher risk of accidents. Unfortunately this proved to be the case with Kostka crashing into me on the first lap. The car sustained a lot of damage and I was unable to continue.
After Lausitz Ring I was hoping for a good weekend at the Norisring however it is a track that has always seemed to be more suited to the Mercedes cars. Next up is Zandvoort and Audi has always been strong there so hopefully we can have a better weekend.
