JARVIS CLINCHES CHAMPIONSHIP POINT AT BRANDS HATCH
Audi’s Oliver Jarvis gained a valuable DTM championship point when he finished 8th at Brands Hatch yesterday in a race that could have seen him finish higher in the rankings had he not been spun around by Mercedes driver Jamie Green.

With the initial Qualifying session having gone very well for Oliver and Audi Sport Team Phoenix, heavy traffic on his second set of tyres in Q2 proved costly having to start 9th on the grid.  That said, the times were very close - he was just five thousandths of a second from Qualifying in the top eight driving the year old spec Audi A4 DTM.

Looking forward to a strong race in front of his home fans, Oliver was out to secure a good result for his team in a contest that saw six Audi A4 DTM cars start from the top ten.Always exciting, the Brands Hatch circuit is the shortest in the DTM calendar, and unsurprisingly delivered its fair share of entertainment.

Determined to make up ground and finish in the points, Oliver made a good start off the line and was on the pace.  As the race progressed, his hopes of a higher placed finish were dashed when Mercedes driver Jamie Green, spun him off the track mid-race, an incident for which Green received a drive-through penalty.  Oliver re-joined the track but then had his work cut out to make ground not helped by safety car periods that followed. The 25 year old Briton from Cambridgeshire did well to finish in eighth place for a Championship point.

“That was a tough race,” said Oliver.  “I’m upset because I don’t know what Jamie planning.  This is the second time in two years now and it is a pretty foolish move on his part.  Had this not have happened, I believe we could have scored more points especially as I made a good start.  I had to drive a cautious race after retiring in the previous two rounds so I was determined to finish.  Without Green’s attack, I would have been able to achieve a lot more and I ended up fighting hard to score a point.”

Ernst Moser (Team Director for Audi Sport Team Phoenix) reiterated this.  “Oliver being turned around by Jamie Green was very unfair.  He had to keep pushing and make up ground again, ultimately finishing in eighth.  Our pace was always good and we never gave up.”  The next round of DTM is in Barcelona on 20th September.
