AUDI SCORES DTM CHAMPIONSHIP HAT-TRICK
There were celebrations for Audi when they won the DTM title for the third consecutive year at Hockenheim in front of 155,000 strong crowd, and in doing so made DTM history.

Qualifying at the Hockenheimring went really well for Oliver when once again, he topped the pack of the year old cars on the grid starting from 6th.  “It was a really good Qualifying which is great, especially at the end of the season when the new cars are always particularly fast so I was thrilled to start from the third row of the grid,” said Oliver.  “All the sessions went well and I was particularly happy with my time on the second set of tyres in Q2.  We only had one set of tyres left in Q3 so sixth place was a good result.”

When it came to the race, both of the Audi Team Phoenix drivers proved they were super-fast gaining championship points from both Oliver and his team-mate, Alex Prémat.  Making a good start, Oliver looked in a strong position during the early stages of the race which was not without its fair share of thrills and spills.  It was a hard fought race in which Oliver pushed all the time and ultimately finished in sixth to gain three handy championship points.

“Everything was going well during the first third of the race,” said Oliver “but the pit-stop was poor.  After that, I pushed to recover.  There were great duels with Markus Winkelhock, Bruno Spengler and at the end, with Jamie Green too.  It was a really enjoyable race with lots of ‘fights’ and overtaking manoeuvres.  A result in the points and the title for Audi makes it a truly fantastic weekend.  Congratulations to everyone at Audi and of course, Timo Scheider.”

Oliver finished the DTM 2009 standings in 9th place and was the highest ranking driver in the year old Audi A4 DTM’s.  While the Audi DTM season comes to an end, Oliver now heads straight off to Japan to make his debut in Audi’s pioneering R10 TDI at Okayama in his first endurance sports car race.  He will be driving for Audi ‘customer’ team Kolles with Christian Bakkerud in the two 500 km races take place on 31 October and 1 November.
