VICTORY IN VALENCIA FOR AUDI BUT HOPES DASHED FOR JARVIS

In the blazing heat of Valencia (23 May) Oliver Jarvis started the second race of the DTM season from third position on the grid in the Tabac Original Audi A4.

Qualifying (some 28 degrees centigrade) brought with it constantly increasing tarmac temperatures escalating to 50 degrees by the end of a session that was dominated by Audi who took eight of the top 11 positions including pole.

“It was an exciting Qualifying” said Jarvis.  The first segment was great but I was a bit over zealous in the second segment and in Q3 made a mistake, but managed to make it through to Q4.  I was the first car out which was a slight disadvantage and probably paid it a bit too cool but I was only lacking two and a half tenths to pole.”

Optimistic for a podium finish, Jarvis started the 4.005 km circuit from third position on what turned out to be a cooler day. When the lights went out, he got off the line well and looked in strong contention during the first stint of the race.  As the race unfolded, it seemed that Jarvis’ podium finish was well within his grasps.

But eight laps from the end, Jarvis could do little more than coast down the track due to a fuel pressure problem which became apparent after the second pit stop.  The race was over for Oliver Jarvis.

“I am disappointed as things were going so well up to that point,” commented Oliver Jarvis.  “Now we have lost valuable points again.”

He will be hoping for better luck at the next race at Lausitz on 6 June.
