Jarvis Battles to the Finish at EuroSpeedway |
|
Drama on the first lap made for an eventful start to the DTM race at EuroSpeedway Lausitz (6 June) in front of some 79,000 spectators.
A collision between Alexandre Prémat and Mattias Ekström on the opening lap caused its fair share of commotion, not least to Audi’s Oliver Jarvis who had made an excellent race start getting off the line to gain several valuable places from his uncharacteristic 13th position on the grid. Jarvis had been disappointed with his Qualifying performance due to a lack of grip which slowed the Tabac Original Audi A4 DTM down. He knew he had all the work to do during the race.
“I was very pleased with my start. I got the inside line into the first turn and I think I was running around 6th or 7th at that point. But then Eki and Prémat collided and spun in front of me. I had to brake and was hit from the rear as I did so which damaged the bodywork, a piece of which was left scraping the rear wheel,” explained Jarvis. “I had to endure everyone passing me for about 200m until this part broke off. Thereafter, it was a difficult race. The car was no longer in balance and I had to battle my way to the finish and by this time, our pace had gone.”
Oliver crossed the chequered flag in 11th place. He headed straight off for this weekend’s 24 hour race at Le Mans where he is driving the Kolles’ team ‘customer’ Audi. The next DTM race is at Norisring in Nuremberg on 4 July.
