HARD WORK, YOU'VE GOT TO BE JOKING!

It has only been a few weeks since my last blog but it seems such a lot has happened. Well, I finally returned home for the A1 GP Brands Hatch race and also to see family and friends which was great.

That said, my time in the UK was pretty much filled with press activities during the build-up to Brands Hatch.  And, even after the actual race itself, there were awards events.  I think it was one of the most hectic weeks I've experienced trying to fit everything in.  I think I would be lying if I said some of the promotional activities were hard work … if you've seen the photos you will know what I mean!  The team have said they've never seen us smile so much but, hey, who can blame us?!

The A1GP at Brands Hatch was a huge success and although I wasn't driving it was fantastic to be there and be a part of it! I fulfilled my usual Friday role and managed to set a time that was actually unbeaten until qualifying so from that point of view I knew we had a very good car. To be the first nation to get that desired home win was superb and a fantastic end to the year for all involved. So to those of you who didn't get to Brands this time, make sure you do next year.

The Monday night after Sunday's race was the end of year Awards Ceremony. I'm glad to say everyone made the effort and managed to scrub up very well for the event! It was very strange not seeing everyone in their usual racing team gear and it actually made recognising people a lot more difficult.  I'm forced to admit that even the GBR boys looked smart for such an ugly bunch (you should hear what they say about me)!  The surprise of the evening was to have Michael Schumacher present the winner's trophy to Team Germany.

After the Awards Ceremony, I managed to spend a day at home and just about caught up with family and friends before heading back to Japan for my two day Motegi test.   Once back in Japan, I stayed in Tokyo for the first two days.  I have to admit I've fallen in love with the city already.  Then it was off to Motegi.

Testing went very well right up until the last half hour on the second day where I didn't quite gain as much time on new tyres as I'd expected but that's how testing goes sometimes.  I'm confident that I can learn from that ahead of the race on 19 and 20 May.  Until next time.
