OLIVER TAKES TO TWO WHEELS

With nearly a month’s gap between Motegi and Okayama, as you can imagine I was desperate to get back in the car again.   It has been quite strange for me in Japan having such long gaps between races compared to British F3.  This is the first time I haven’t been trying to combine racing with working or studying at Uni so I’ve found myself with a surprising amount of free time on my hands!

Recently, I’ve been finding many new hobbies away from the race circuit.  Myself and Fabio did buy ourselves a remote control helicopter, however we’ve since lost that so our latest hobby is mountain biking

With the weather improving and living in an area that is surrounded by mountains, it is the perfect way to stay entertained and work on fitness at the same time.  We’ve even managed to find some tracks coming down the mountains through the forest just at the back of my apartment.  Now this activity did start out as a hobby but is now becoming a bit competitive.  As always with racing drivers, we are seeing how far we can ride or how fast we can go … it all adds to the enjoyment

I’ve also recently taken part in several Kart competitions for TOM’S and its sponsors.  The first one, we won comfortably but I have to admit we did lose the second by a considerable margin (6 laps!!). In our defense, we did have the slowest kart in the world and two very inexperienced drivers!  Such was the gap we even tried cheating to make up places by taking short cuts but unfortunately kept getting caught

It was then off to Okayama and immediately after, I managed to get home to see my family and friends.  More about that in my next blog.
