JARVIS ON WINNING GT TEAM – RELEASED 20 August 2007 |
Oliver Jarvis, competing in the All Japan F3
Championship with TOM’S, relished the last minute opportunity to represent
TOM’s Toyota in
the GT500 race at Suzuka.
The Super GT race team, also consisting of
Juichi Wakiska and Andre Lotterer took victory in the GT500 class of the
International Pokka 1000km race in Round 6 of the Autobacs Super GT Series.
Due to the late call, Jarvis who also races
again for A1 Team GBR this season, was unable to organise any testing prior to
the event so his first taste behind wheel of the GT car was during official
testing on the Friday. Sharing with other
drivers meant that driving was quite restricted too.
Pressure was on Jarvis during Qualifying –
the rules state that each driver must qualify within a specified time or the
team is disqualified. Fortunately, the
23 year old adapted well and managed to get a clear lap to set a time well
within the time allowed.
Although Jarvis didn’t get to actually
drive the car on Sunday, he commented afterwards, “It was a fantastic feeling
to be part of the winning team and a real eye opener that I very much
enjoyed. Driving the car late at night
as the sun settled was a new experience for me.
I would like to thank TOM’S for allowing me the opportunity to take part
and for making me so welcome.”
