A1 Team GBR take dominant Victory in Series Opener
Oliver Jarvis got A1 Team Great Britain’s challenge for the A1GP  World  Cup  of  Motorsport  off  to  a  flying  start  with a dominant  victory  in  yesterday’s (Sunday) Feature Race  at  Circuit  Park  Zandvoort,  The  Netherlands.

Following a strong  drive  in  the  earlier  Sprint Race which saw him net a 7th placed finish, Oliver proved to be the class of the field in the main race. Jarvis’s  Feature  Race unfolded  when  starting  3rd on the grid, he  pulled  off  a spectacular  overtaking  manoeuvre  on Team  Germany’s  Christian  Vietoris,  moving  up  into  2nd position.  On  lap  4 he  quickly caught the  lead  car  of  South  Africa’s  Adrian  Zaugg.

The team brought Oliver into ojarvis_-_zandvoort_sept_07the pits as soon as the first pit-stop window opened on lap eight and superb work by the crew gave him a crucial advantage.  He took the lead after South Africa’s pit-stop and managed to build a cushion to his nearest rivals, which he maintained through to the second pit stop and onwards to the chequered flag.

Oliver  Jarvis:   “That’s  the  start  to  the  A1GP year  I  was  anticipating  before  we  came here!   It was a fantastic race, which was very  tough  both physically  and  mentally.   Off the start, I managed to dive down the inside and get back past Neel Jani (A1 Team SUI) into corner one. And after that it was a case of pressurizing Germany who I knew were a lot slower than us and managed to pull off an overtaking move down the inside – that really made the race for me.  The team made all the right pit stop calls – we pitted as soon as the first pit stop window opened and then  pushed  hard  to  close  the  gap  and  try  to  jump  South  Africa which  we  achieved.   I  got  my head  down  as  it  was  then  a  case  of  controlling  the  race and  making  sure  I  didn’t  make  any mistakes.  It’s a special win for me with my whole family here, but for the team it’s a great start to the season.  I’m going home a very happy man!”

Katie  Clements;  Team  Principal:    “A  fantastic  result  for  the  team  and  a  great  start  to our championship challenge.  It was always going to be tough in the sprint from 10th on the grid but Olly drive very well to gain the places he did.  The feature saw plenty of action and our race pace and pit work were first class.    With  new  commercial  partners  joining  the  team we’re  also overjoyed to score a victory and gain exposure for them, as well as being a fitting tribute to the late Colin McRae.”
