1,2,3 - TREBLE PODIUM FOR JARVIS IN JAPAN
Less than a week after Oliver Jarvis won the opening Feature Race for A1 Team Great Britain in Zandvoort in the 2007-2008 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, the 23 year old from Cambridgeshire resumed his All Japan F3 Championship campaign for TOM’S Toyota over the weekend by wrapping up another race win and two further podium finishes in Rounds 16, 17 and 18 at Japan’s Sendai Hi-Land Raceway.

Describing the three Qualifying sessions as “a bit of a lottery due to changing track conditions”, Jarvis improved his first Qualifying 5th position (Round 16) by producing three very quick laps in Qualifying 2 all fast enough to secure him a pole position start for the next race (Round 17).  Having set a very quick first lap in Qualifying 3, he encountered gravel across the track at the chicane which meant he had to ease off leaving him third on the grid for race three (Round 18).

Jarvis made a good start in the first race (Round 16) whilst others experienced wheel spin so he was quick to seize the opportunity to make up ground immediately moving up to third place.  Despite pushing hard behind TOM’S team-mate, Hiroaki Ishiura who was also chasing race leader Roberto Streit, Jarvis maintained the pressure but could not pass so finished the first race of the weekend in third place.

Starting from pole in the second race (Round 17), Jarvis was quick off the line fending off the challenging Kazuka Oshima who also made a good start.  As they set off into the first corner it was a battle of ‘the late brakers’.  Jarvis managed to maintain his position but Oshima outbraked himself and ran through the gravel leaving Ishiura to mount the challenge on Jarvis. However, consistently fast laps from Jarvis secured him the race victory with a considerable 10 second advantage as well as claiming him fastest lap.

Round 18, Jarvis set off from second row of the grid, again with another good start that instantly propelled him ahead of Streit off the line.  Streit attempted to regain his position but Jarvis held his nerve and defended his advantage throughout the race.  Meanwhile race leader, Ishiura, had opened up a sufficient lead which Jarvis was unable to reduce for the remainder of the race.  Once more, Oliver Jarvis took to the podium, this time receiving second place honours.

“I’m pleased with three podiums and most importantly, a race win,” says Oliver who currently stands in second place in the All Japan F3 Championship with just two races to go in the Japanese F3 calendar.  “We have closed the gap considerably this weekend but I still feel we missed out on some valuable points ahead of the final race weekend in Motegi mainly due to the Qualifying sessions.  That said I head to Motegi knowing that I can win the title.  It’s very close but I’m relishing the opportunity.”

The concluding Motegi Rounds 19 and 20 take place on 20-21 October.   Streit currently leads the Championship on 255 points with Oliver Jarvis on 254 and Oshima on 230.
